Indian Railways Opens 118 km of New Lines in Madhya Pradesh

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw holds a green flag during the virtual inauguration of new Madhya Pradesh railway sections.

Two Sections Inaugurated

Indian Railways inaugurated the 53 km Satna–Devendranagar and 65 km Rewa–Churhat sections in Madhya Pradesh on 24 October 2026. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw participated by video link from New Delhi alongside Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. A Devendranagar–Churhat passenger service was also flagged off.

The sections form part of the Lalitpur–Singrauli project. The Ministry of Railways expects them to improve access to education, healthcare, employment and markets across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions.

Construction and Connectivity

The Rewa–Churhat line cost approximately ₹1,070 crore. Completion of the final 22.5 km Rampur Naikin–Churhat section extended rail access to Churhat in Sidhi district. Engineering works on the route include a 3.33 km tunnel, according to the ministry’s earlier project briefing.

The Satna–Devendranagar line cost approximately ₹873 crore. Its final 8 km Phulwari–Devendranagar stretch completed the section. The ministry expects improved logistics for cement, clinker and other mineral-based industries, as well as better market access for farmers and rural traders.

Passenger Service and Regional Benefits

The new Devendranagar–Churhat–Devendranagar service provides an additional rail option through Satna and Rewa for students, patients, workers and other local passengers. The release does not provide a timetable or operating frequency.

Improved access is also expected to support tourism around Panna, Khajuraho and Rewa, including Mukundpur’s White Tiger Safari. These economic and tourism benefits remain projected outcomes.

Vaishnaw said roughly ₹1 lakh crore of railway projects are underway in Madhya Pradesh. He linked possible future train services to project completion and called for inspection and replacement of saplings under compensatory plantation measures.
